How I Work

From first hello
to “I do”

A clear, stress-free process — with everything legal handled for you.

The process

Everything taken care of

Once you have decided that you’d like to make use of my services, here is exactly what happens next.

Couple holding hands during their vows
01

Initial communication

We connect via e-mail, phone, WhatsApp or video call. A 50% non-refundable deposit is payable to secure your booking, on condition that I agree to do the wedding ceremony.

02

Documentation

Once your booking is confirmed I need all documentation at our first meeting, or e-mailed to me (please scan ID / passport books). During the last week before your wedding I complete the forms required by the Department of Home Affairs — so I must have all documentation or I will not be able to do the ceremony.

03

The ceremony

I conduct a warm, heartfelt and special ceremony that’s tailor-made to your requests and ensure that everyone present thoroughly enjoys it.

04

Signing the register

All documents are completed beforehand, and the Marriage Register is signed by you both and your two witnesses straight after the ceremony, that same day.

05

Marriage certificates

I give you a hand-written marriage certificate on your wedding day, straight after the signing of the register. Then, within 3 working days of your ceremony I register your marriage with the Department of Home Affairs. I then pay for a printout of your unabridged marriage certificate and send it to your nearest PostNet, together with the second copy of the marriage register that you sign on your wedding day.

Wedding rings
Ring exchange

A circle without end

The exchange of rings is one of the most meaningful moments of the ceremony. If you wish, I’ll briefly explain the symbolism of the wedding ring to your guests — an unbroken circle representing a love that has no end.

Your ring vows are included in the ceremony script, available in both English and Afrikaans on the forms page, so you can read them well before the day.

Terms & Conditions

The fine print

Integrity and honesty of all information

It is entirely your responsibility, as the bridal couple, to provide honest and truthful information to me, which I give to the South African Department of Home Affairs. I can therefore, by no means, take any responsibility for false or inaccurate information and / or documents supplied by you, to me.

Deposit and payment

Once the deposit has been made and the wedding is then cancelled by you (or you no longer need my services), your deposit will not be refunded. Your deposit means that you agree to all the Terms and Conditions laid down for me to conduct your ceremony. In the unforeseen event that I am not able to conduct your wedding, I will either return your deposit or find a replacement marriage officer, according to your choice. The balance is payable one week before the ceremony.

Unabridged marriage certificate

Within 3 working days of your ceremony I register your marriage with the Department of Home Affairs. I then pay for a printout of your unabridged marriage certificate and send it to your nearest PostNet, together with the second copy of the marriage register that you sign on your wedding day. While I do my very best to get it to you quickly, I cannot be held responsible for any delay on the part of the Department of Home Affairs.
